Hi

After my grounding recently at Penton Hook Lock I haven't used the boat since and its sitting at my berth in PH Marina.

Has anyone any recommendations for checking the propellers for any obvious damage while the boat is still in the water, I would like to confirm they are damaged before going to the expense of lifting the boat. After grounding my boat I didn't detect any unusual vibration but appreciate that does not mean any damage has not occurred. I was told that the Marina staff do not like you going in the water with a mask, I assume for health and safety reasons while on their property.

If you have no vibration you may be lucky, leave it until the end of the season?
Or find a beach, stick your bow in,anchor out the back, wade in and have a look, certainly warm enough!

Once upon a time, MDL used to have an underwater camera on a pole that berth holders could use to check their boats underwater sections. Not sure if it was one device shared between all 3 of MDL's Thames marinas, or one per marina but since you're at Penton Hook, might be worth asking in the office.

Use your bare feet while keeping head out of the water. our props are 6 feet away from the water line, and I have done this regularly.

You will definitely feel any damage.

I bought an XScource 7mtre USB 'waterproof' borescope from Amazon, thinking this would do. Seemed to work great in my kitchen when I hooked it up to my laptop - just the job, then I tried it in my fish pond and it died after a few minutes - so much for being waterproof !!

I'll see if the marina has a better underwater camera or I'll just have to get wet - anyone know where I can buy a waterproof torch ?
