Cheaper USA Garmin GPS!?

No VAT for a start. Local sales taxes typically 5-6% on top of the box price. Even so the US market is a little bigger than ours so you also get economies of scale.

Shame :(

Strange how few units come up second hand - if at all

I'm going to wait until next year when prices may drop or maybe from a boat show deal - just hope prices don't go up in the New Year!

Garmin 515 £430 new and £320 E-Bay second hand is best I have found yet...

This is the one I bought new from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130777583640
£391

I see the listing is no longer available but keep an eye on his listings and he may get them in again, funny the price differences though.

Thanks for that I will :)

Now to look up the difference between a 515 and a 551

I know the difference between a 451 and a 551 is the size of the screen, don't know between the 515 and 551 though but the S at the end means sounder built in.

Edit to add, sorry but I've just noticed the one at £515 is from the same seller, that's one hell of a price hype !!!

Sorry Skipper, don't know where I got 515 from

I have just called the company and they said they were what was left over from the special £100 and over off offers from the Boat Show - she said wait until the London Boat Show as she is sure Garmin/Raymarine will do the same deals again :D

Many thanks for that i'll hang on...

You got a VERY good deal....

Not really. You live in Rip-Off Britain. System designed to keep the rich exactly that.

Not really as has already been pointed out taxes are lower in the US, land is generaly cheaper and consumer protection is not that good many products have a pretty limited warranty which can be difficult to support. Much European stuff in the US is sold at prices which would make your eyes water as it is seen as 'premium' for some obscure reason.

I do think our retail system is less efficient than in the US as well which does not help, but overall overheads and taxation make up most of the difference.

the us ones do not have cartography and have to be purchased for different areas.heres a good site though and i recently bought a 750s for £760 in september but the offer has gone back up now .

the s models are the better ones to have as sonar transducers can be fitted with transducers giving depth and fishfinder capability above the non s models.
£493 for the 551s model
