Cheaper alternative to FPB ?

This http://www.artnautica.com/designs/long-range-cruiser-58 might qualify. It's certainly cheaper, but still a not insignifant chunk of change starting at $850k apparently.

I did a little digging and it seems there are a few in build at yards in both New Zealand and the Netherlands. EU site here http://artnautica.eu/

They seem very heavily influenced by Dashews work but inevitably the reduced pricing has to come from somewhere even aside from the reduced length. Like you, I find the setsail site a bit of a magnet!

Get hold of a copy of the updated version of Bob Beebe's "Voyaging under Power". (The update was done by Jim Leishman of Nordhaven fame).

It the book they discuss the trade off you have to make to get European canal cruiserbility with long range offshore ability. (Airdraft of 3.5m and draft less than 1.2m, etc.) The best designs that incorporate this sort of thinking at the cheaper end of the market are probably the designs by George Buehler.

Thank you for the info.

It appears to be a niche concept but makes perfect sense to me.
It's a pity so few boats are capable of voyaging at an economical steady speed, keeping owners warm and dry and go anywhere.

Can't wait to retire !
