Boats.co.uk ( Essex was so much simpler) have just posted on Facebook a boat that arrived yesterday and needs some TLC.

1997 £ 95k.

Tell him it is in Mallorca and he must have meant E95k ! ( there is of course little difference now :-( )

Cant seem to link to a post but this is their page.

Sleeps 6 and in the Med so unless it is a total shed it is cheap instant boating.

You know you want to ...

Well, a lot of boat but at 21 years old, hardly used, not looked after it could be a lot of Bills. Engines and ancillaries key, interior is not expensive if DIY, electrics old but workable.....hate too imagine condition of seacocks and toilets.

Anyone know it was lifted and serviced every year? seems to have been in Pollenca and not moving for 18 years

Cheers

Paul

Its up on their website now, with more pictures. The description says "this boat has not been looked after by her only owner" and says the engines "run" and is being sold with no warranty.

Quite a big gamble there that the engines are going to carry on running.

That's still too much money, needs to be £75k as I'm sure there'll be some big bills now and plenty of hassle going forward once it starts being used again.

Was thinking replacing stuff in a Big Bang or over a measured timely way over say 3 yrs .
In the mean time enjoying Med boating .
Suit a part or full retired with boat “ knausse “
Top £ 20O K so if 80 there’s 120 in the slush fund
New teak , covers , upholstery , fridges , air con , chargers and what ever the engines need by the book .New shaft seals , cutlass bearings etc ,
Hull paint is € 120/140sq M depending on prep,( fill dinks )
And your done

With new stuff going Fwds ——— and you choose the specs etc
Also each replace item has a going Fwds life that you can count on ..

Alternatively pic a “ minter “ 7 or well OCD kept 9-12 Y and it’s not quite your spec and every few weeks stuff fails - despite you paying top $ at the point of sale.
Beacause the seller has “ timely “ offloaded it to a mug .

£200k is delusional for a 97 boat, plenty of later boats around £120-150k that have been looked after and had ongoing replacement of aged parts. Any boat that's been unused for years is going to be a moneypit so £75k max is the money for this. I bet they gave £50k for it to jog it on to some mug.
Happy to be proved wrong but I've bought a few projects like this and know the pitfalls.
Getting stuff done in the Med's not cheap either, if it was a UK based boat you could do stuff yourself.

I’m sure if this was worth doing up then boats.co.uk would do it, as it’s not they are looking to punt it on to some mug whose going to get the big bills in the months to come once it goes back into regular use, after all they usually buy, do up and sell so what’s different here ?

Apart from anything its the end of June and the workshops/mechanics are going to have their hands full with people coming on holiday to use their boat for the first time this year and finding that something has gone wrong and other people desperately trying to get their boat serviced in time for the summer holiday.

It might be a different story if they got this boat in 6 months later.

So whoever takes it on will be in same position so unlikely to sell if that’s the case, I’m sure if there’s a profit to be made they would find a way of doing it.

I disagree. Knowing boats.co.uk they will have made their money on the deal in some other way (this could well be a p/ex) and having limited staff and limited storage space in Cala D'Or I can easily see why this is too much work for them to take on.

I think this is a boat for a competent DIY boat mender. It may be that much of the work is superficial but to me the make or break would be the condition of the engines and gearboxes. If these just need a good service and minor repairs then that would make this an attractive project. If they need a full rebuild (£15-20k per side) then that's another matter. I'd also want to ascertain what sort of state the other major components are in, e.g. genset, A/C units as that could be another £20k bill to get them replaced.

Define "full". Far from being a VP expert, but I suspect that it takes more than that to rebuild a couple of TAMD122.
Maybe Volvopaul can enlighten us in this respect.
Just out of idle curiosity, mind. I wouldn't want another boat if I could have it FoC! :D
