cheap rechargeable torch - even a wind up handle

I have a couple of similar torches bought for £2-99 at garages about a year ago. One is in my work tool bag and gets used 2 or 3 times a week. They too said 30 minutes from a 1 minute charge. After about 10 -15minutes they start to fade but for what I paid they work well enough.

I also have a couple of these wind up rechargable torches, and a shake one, usefull for the grab bag and in the car, no worries about having duff batteries, just wind up when you need it, although they don't last very long, they are ample enough for what they are..

I bought one

in the ironmonger's in Cluny in 2003.

It was slightly cheaper than the one in the advert.

It's performed faultlessly since then, but doesn't throw a powerful enough beam for anything but close work. Does about 20mins on 3 LEDs after 3mins winding.

Re: I bought one

I think these might be pokier than that- since my pal bought one for his pushbike & can see where he's going with it. has a mains & car charger lncluded.

If you do keep one on the boat, don't forget that they have strong magnets in them, and can affect a magnetic compass from several feet away.

I bought no less than 3 solar torches from a Total petrol station in Lee on Solent.
They have 6 leds, on a full charge the battery last 8 hours, and the side of the torch is a solar panel. I leave one in the wheelhouse so it gets sunlight for a couple of hours daily.
Used it today to fish out a spanner which got dropped in the keel space.
Even has a hole for a lanyard so you can put in round your neck - deal for starting the o/b at 2am and providing some sort of light in the inflatable so that others can see you. Cost £3.95, and well worth it.
