Cheap propellers

Hi

This year we have got through lots of propellers on our outdrives. Any recommendations for sources of cheap propellers for Volvo drives? The prices Volvo dealers charge are painful.

I bought alumin cast props from keypart for my 140hp mercruisers, They were £69 each, the catch was they were universal fitting so needed to have a shaft adaptor but claimed the adaptor is a one off purchase, as I am moored at christchurch and usually hit bottom at least once or twice per season these cheap props appealed to me, but cannot give a running report as I've spent more time on here than in the boat this season!

"Lots" is 2+2+1+3, so 8 so far this season. As you can see from the arithmetic, they don't always get trashed in pairs!!!

"Why" is mostly bad luck (rope, mechanical failure), but one episode was half bad luck and half stupidity (Christchurch harbour which is about as deep as a paddling pool).

Would dearly love to find a solution to the rope problems but cutters seem to be for shaft drives...

I have to say, I find that amazing. I've been boating for over 10 years and never bent, dinged or lost a prop in that time and I do +/- 200 hours a year. I've had one set of duo props corrode on me, but that's all. Now watch, I'll go and do one in this w/e /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Ummm, unfortunately as most know I experienced the replacement thing at the beginning of the year, DON'T use SMM and if you want to know why PM me.
For standard Ally 15 x 15 singles Keypart were the cheapest and Steel Developments next. From memory Keypart for the pair was £ 260 + P & P. Steel Developments were £ 300 + P&P.

Re:Even cheaper propellers

Surely your best bet,is to keep a pair of rebuilt props, for the day you next trash a set.Send your snaggly toothed ones off for repair(Steel Dev @ 40.00)/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif and bolt on your previously repaired items and off you go searching for some new rocks etc.I sourced my set of standby props from boaty boot sale at around 30.00 each.
Do not even have to be correct pitch as Steel dev can repitch a certain amount as well.

In the parts store on the Volvo Penta stand at the up-coming Southampton Boat Show, the guys running the parts stand section will be doing some great deals on VP Alu DP propeller sets.....
