Beware of cheap petrol filters.
Late last year I bought 5 through Amazon, and fitted one in line on my Mariner 3.3 two stroke.
For the past three days anchored off Cushendall I noticed a drip of petrol from the outboard after I shut it down, closing the fuel tap stopped the drips. I thought it was the carb, usual problem of the needle valve sticking, but it did not seem an urgent fix, leave it until I get alongside in Ballycastle.
This morning, final run for dog ashore, the outboard stopped just as we left the jetty, fuel tank completely empty, only filled a couple of days ago.
This afternoon at Ballycastle, stripped down and cleaned the carb, re-assembled, filled fuel tank, and still a leak, but not the carb, but from around the fuel filter. A closer look showed that the two parts of the filter were coming apart, and petrol was pretty much running out of the filter.
Replaced filter with a different type I had.
Binned the defective filter and its four companions.
