hi,

just what the title says really.
Following a midnight f6 that hit us whilst fast asleep couple of weeks ago that had a couple of kids freak out a bit, I wouldn't mind a cheap(ish) solution to weather overlay on my plotter.
Yes, I know I can use my mobile phone and get to a couple of national services and have a good idea of the weather, but sometimes I forget especially when it's 44C for 3days in a row, F-1 and boiling hot!

If I understand correctly, there's a marine service something like telex (maybe silly now, but never seen one working in the flesh) that you pick up from an VHF antenna. Wouldn't expect this text to be translated to something useful as a screen overlay, but wonder if there's another solution to the N2K GDL40 with a 4-5quid a day subscription (if I got that bit right...) that would work with the .whatever weather files you can download from the net.
Maybe an opportunity for an raspberry or arduino N2K tool here?

cheers

V.

Vas I have a Navtex receiver on Rafiki. Reads a bit like telex. To be honest, I don't use it, as I use www.windguru.cz on my tablet. Gives an accurate wind and wave forecast. Not sure if it covers Greece, but will check it out as we are going sailing in Lefkada in Sept.
