Cheap Magnifying Glass.

A cheap pair of reading glasses does the same job, keeps both hands free and gives a wider field of view. And they are about the same price if you shop around. I do need glasses for reading, but have a range of powers available for different uses - I use +2 for reading, +1 for computer screens and +3 for close work.

Most people don't use magnifying lenses correctly. They should be held close to the eye, with the object being observed being moved into focus; holding the lens halfway between the eye and the object reduces the field of view and doesn't give the maximum magnification.

I have exactly the same. The +3's go around my neck hanging on 3mm Spectra, when I get caught up the frames break, its a safety feature. Often have the +3's around the neck and don the others when in the appropriate places.

So whats the point of the spectra they are hanging on?

They hang around my neck for at least 8 hours a day. I might only use them for a few minutes every now and then. When I sit in front of the computer I wear another pair, 1.0, and if I sit down to read I don the reading glasses.

In the workshop and at the nav station on my yacht I have other pairs!
