cheap inflatable paddle board... are they rubbish?

not used yet, the sports air xl says 10'10 long.. the Entradia is 12' for my height and weight and novice qualifications I went big for stability!

The one irritating thing is I didn't notice the starter pack I got did not have a leash... that's another £15. the duluxe option gave you a leash and a seat for another £20... gggrrr

Thanks, the Sport Air XL is actually a 12 ft board also (12'0 x 33" x 6") and I agree from what I have read that the larger board the better......I think I'll go for the deluxe pack at £425 which seems decent value.

Oh sorry, must have been looking at the 10ft boards. well sounds good. Not wishing to spend your money, but I went for the aluminium paddle. The guys I saw last weekend had gone for the carbon paddle, its a lot lighter... and rather nice. I can see me going for a carbon one if I like paddling about on this thing!

Do you have suitable silly shorts and floppy hat? Designer shades?

I just looked, that Entradia board is only 10kgs, loads lighter than I thought it would be. From where Tulana will be parked (just a hunch!) to the YSC slip sounded a bit of a lug, but if its only 10kgs then easy peasy.

Silly shorts and floppy hat yes, designer shades will not be worn as that's just asking for trouble!

It arrived yesterday, its a nice bit of kit, is quite big!

We went for the Sport Air XL (10/10) as this is similar to the board we hired last weekend and the thinking is that smaller is more manoeuvrable (once sufficiently practised). The larger board also takes more air and pumping it up is not fun on a hot day. Have already invested in an electric pump but a word of warning that it has to work hard and the wires get hot so I wouldn't personally use the cigarette lighter socket on the boat as I know it's got smallish wires feeding it. We already have a 240v converter with a cigarette lighter socket and this works well.

As far as I understand from my research was the cheaper boards were single walled (or something along those lines) so not as quite robust so I opted for the slightly more expensive.

You don't need a leash for touring, you only need one in waves to stop the board being washed into the beach.

I use my leash all the time. The hardest point of boarding for me is the dismount, and the board can go shooting off, as I scramble Whale like onto the pontoon! Without the leash, it could be a long swim to recover. Mine is also a 2 bare feet board. Very satisfied except the pump connector failed. 2bf replaced no quibble.

Update - the Sport Air XL (a 12' board) from Two Bare Feet is a nice bit of kit, arrived Friday and used it twice over the weekend.

Inflated across the bathing platform of our Fairline Targa 34 without too much trouble and managed to climb aboard onto my knees without falling in! Got up on to my feet after a minute or two and bar a few wobbly moments it was good fun - very annoying though is the fact that my 12 yr old and his friend were FAR better than us adults, must be a weight vs buoyancy thing! It works well as a floating platform just to paddle about too, I paddled ashore with the two boys aboard and there was plenty of room.

I can confirm that it also fits snugly onto the bow of a Targa 34, on top of the sunpad cushions it neatly slotted in above the windlass at the bow and the tip just reached the windscreen. A couple of ratchet straps held it on nice and securely even at 30+ kts.

All in all, a great addition to the boat to keep the kids interested in going out on the boat and, having anchored for 4/5 hrs yesterday in the sunshine at Chapman's Pool, it didn't go more than 10 minutes without one of the kids or adults using it.

Brill.

I've long wanted to go into Chapman's Pool, never done it, looks fab.

I think it's our new favorite place, but maybe the glorious conditions of last Sunday have swayed me here though :) - a perfect boating day.

When we arrived there at lunchtime there were probably 12 boats and a number of people on the beach (but still not busy in the slightest due to it's reasonably hard to access location from land) and by the time we left late afternoon we were one of only 4 boats remaining and only a handful of people on the beach.

We also popped further along to Lulworth before we headed back to Poole, but Lulworth was a much busier anchorage even though it was late afternoon by then.

We were along that fantastic stretch of coast on Sunday also...based in Poole we passed Chapmans Pool and anchored for the first time in Mupe Bay, about a mile or so east of Lulworth.
Our paths may have crossed in Lulworth Cove as we spent the late afternoon there also.
Most of the boats there seemed from Weymouth / Portland direction.
We went ashore.....wow....the place was unbelievably busy....glad we visited by boat and not by car!!!

We only nosed into Lulworth to show our guests on board so were there for a matter of minutes. Had to race back for the lifting bridge and I can confirm that you can get from Lulworth Cove to Poole Harbour entrance (to the 10 knot speed limit) in 35 minutes in a Fairline Targa 34, if needed :D.

I read in the local paper that the previous weekend saw 10,000 people visit Lulworth and car parks were rammed so vehicles were abandoned on the side of the road, which caused gridlock. As you say, much more pleasant to visit by boat and weekends like the last one make it all worthwhile!
