I need to find a cheapie marina in the Chichester areas for a month from April next year.

I am having some covers made up by C&J Marine but they need the boat a shade closer than Essex!! They have put me in touch with Sparkes Marina on Hayling Island but they want £700 for the month.

Anywhere that's not a million miles from Chichester is fine - in any condition - as long as they have room for a 46 footer for a month...what deals can be done!!??

Cheers
Stefan

Congratulations! You have correctly identified the fact that "cheapie marina in the Chichester area" is a contradiction in terms.

How about Wicormarine? Though 46 ft may be a bit big for them............

C&J haven't done you a huge favour here - Sparkes is miles away from them and probably the most expensive place in the harbour. It's way down at the end of Hayling Island, so quite a drive.

I don't quite understand why they need your boat nearby, but they are based at Fishbourne and the nearest marinas are Chichester or Birdham Pool. You might try Emsworth, which is also close.

I've used C&J over the years and pleased with their quality, but they are now becoming very expensive IMO.

Could you not find someone closer to home?

Try Hayling Yacht Co in Mill Rythe, they may be able to help, they have alongside and swinging moorings.

There is water HW +/- about 2.5 hours depending on draught etc. Bit twisty to get in.

I presume you only need to go into a marina for a day to have them fitted (I did the same last year) then, once fitted, take a tempory swing mooring or marina of your choice.

Should also mention Northney (MDL) where we are - it's on the way to Sparkes by road and C&J are frequently there. Good facilities if you're working on the boat, Pumpkin chandlery and within striking range of many others. Probably my first choice if preparing boat for longish voyage. Almost non-tidal and no locks to worry about, see here for details.

Royal Clarence is the cheapest in the area with space for large boats. See here
However it is in Gosport, so may not be so convenient.

also second Northney....but this year they'd have asked for over £700 for a 46' for a month....better than Sparkes tho', if price is the same'ish.

If you make it earlier, Northney have cheapish winter berthing this year, so maybe worth contacting anyway.

I got CJ to quote for a canopy and was shocked at the price. Also got JB Yacht Servise in Fareham - Great quote (£1100 vice £2000) and fantastic service - all done in 2 weeks and in the New Sealine blue with black fleks. Quality absolutely grade A. Why not save your money and go to JB!

2nd vote for JB, they made a tired old S240 look dead smart with a new set of blue canvas at a very reasonable price...
