I would like a cheap GPS for the tender. I really only want to know how fast I am going and maybe how far I have traveled.

I thought maybe the type that cyclists have? The tender has a console with an area behind the steering wheel for a "proper" gps to attach.

Any ideas?

If is not too late, something like an old Garmin GPS12 would have another use.
We keep a Garmin GPS 12 in the grab bag - it uses dry cell batteries which we also keep (separately) in the grab bag.
Maybe you can justify it better if it had another use.

If you just want to know on an occasional basis, then you can get free apps for your phone, assuming the phone has GPS.

That's what I do. I have OpenCPN on an android phone with old cmap charts. Installed only as a backup but found it surprisingly useful. And it's nice to know we can get 25 knots 2-up in the rib when the need for speed kicks in :D
