Following on from the fre extinguisher thread I saw fire blankets at Excel for about £11 or £12. I just bought one in a local Lloyds Pharmacy for £2.99. Same size at 1.2 metres square. Brand name is Funwick. I unpacked it from the plastic dispenser and it appears just as good as the expensive chandlery ones, even has re-packing instructions.

Be careful to check its rating .... as some cheap Chinese imports have been found to be in past - unsuitable for cooking oil fires where heat is intense ... literally blanket failed by scorching and falling apart .... Some were basically only suitable for smothering a person in who has burning clothes ! Just example.

When in it comes to fire and safety - even me as Penny-Pinching Luther is careful about it ...

It has the following markings. Type CEW430. Certified to European Standard BSEN 1869:1997. License Number KM84989, and the Kitemark.
I actually bought it for the kitchen at home, but see no reason not to buy one for a boat unless there is a higher specification that should be obtained.

Best is to Ask FPO at Local Fire Station .... even a search on net will probably bring up data ...

I was commenting based on a friendship I have with a Trading Standards guy in UK - who used to tell me some real horror stories ... Teddy Bear eyes, Fire Protection stuff etc. etc. So thought it prudent to pass on ....

The Container should have the relevant EN ISO and CE data ... plus if restricted in use .... on a label.

I have no comment on the actual one you bought ... just passing on a comment made to me a year or so ago by my mate who's a Trading Std's guy in Hampshire .....

Just a thought .... plug that lot into Google and see what it says ???? I know that BSI and ISO have strict standards about it and reckon it should come up ....

Hang on a mo ....

So a Trading Stds guy tells you he has investigated and removed faulty goods from sale .... Later you pass on the knowledge to others ... thinking you may just help someone ...

Along comes someone else and kicks you in the nuts for passing the info on ??

It doesn't matter whether I know the Full Regulation Clauses / Numbers and Certificate data ... the fact is it happened and doesn't mean to say it doesn't still happen ....

Blimey - forgive me for caring about others .....
