Brittany Ferries want £269 for a Roscoff-Plymouth car+2 on Sept 1st. Or you could get a Plymouth-Roscoff-Plymouth, coming back on the same ship, same day, for £79.

I thought I might save myself a couple of hundred quid by using only the return portion for our trip back to the UK this year but BF are way ahead of me..... the small print (it's very small and in the t&c) says 'failure to use the outward portion automatically cancels the return portion'.

It's their ferry and they can make whatever rules they want. But I wonder if anyone has discovered a way of manipulating tickets to their advantage - a bit like buying 'short ticketing' on the trains?

We tried on the Santander route, but not successful, slightly different to you as we used the outward journey but as we did not use the return journey we had to pay the difference in the cost of the single ticket. But we thought it was worth a go and still only ended up paying what we should have. Would also like to know if any one has succeeded

It is the same thing with flights.
I was booking flights to Moscow for myself (from Montpellier) and my colleagues from Munich.

My colleagues flight - Munich/Moscow return - best price was 800 or so Euros.

I could have booked a flight from Montpellier to Moscow for 225 Euros with an overnight stop in Munich to take exactly the same flights as on the Munich<->Moscow<->Munich part as my colleague. I did not do that as the overnight stay was inconvenient.

No way of course to do just the Munich/Moscow bit.

I did it as one of three foot passengers with Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen. Saved money booking a return fare and not using the return. My travelling companions and I all got letters demanding the payment of the difference as a surcharge. They paid I didn't and just got another letter - ignored. Don't know if I'm blackballed or not but will find out shortly
