cheap engine anti siphon valves

Are cheap engine anti siphon valve's like this:

any good?

Do they work well/ clog up quicker/ last as well as the more expensive Vetus ones (£80 +)?

Does anyone know if you can remove the valve and easily add a pipe so that it can drain over board instead?

than item is ok.
i have no valve,it piddles into the cockpit.i can then see if the inlet is blocked

Like the OP, I'm curious as to how to fit a bit of pipe to do the piddling. PVC tube would be ok, I guess, but what tricksy adapters needed to join it up?

You would need to restrict the piddle pipe flow - otherwise all the cooling water would go to piddle and none to cooling the exhaust.

Yes but have you seen the difference in price - this Vetus trap is some £60.00-£70.00 dearer

my boat uses a simple one way valve as in this on a T piece in the water inlet pipe.. Installed by Bowman in 96 and still working fine.

As you had had put on no comment to go with the pics the implication was that it was comparative, including cost, to the subject of the thread and it isn't . This is £99.50 at Force 4 and some £76.00 more so you can direct where the piddle comes out. Some people would say that they can think of better ways to spend £76.00 ; its a personal choice - I chose the Vetus by the way.

It looks as though securely fitting a hose in place of the valve may not be 100% satisfactory .
Note the possible need to restrict the outflow if you do try it.

As to regulating flow - I saw a clamp as used for squeezing surgical tube from drips. Might start a hunt for one.

It looks to me as it is only constructed to have a valve, that is why it is cheaper. Taking the valve off and fitting a pipe would be a bodge at best. Would you like to trust the welfare of your engine to such a bodge?

If its necessary to limit the flow an fitting like the one Vetus supply with their AS valves might be better than a clamp to compress the tube although some of those are better than others. See laboratory equipment suppliers.
