I am planning a trip from Whitby to London and will want to leave my little bilge keeler somewhere between Lowestoft and London for a month from early June. Any ideas for a cheap stop-over e.g. safe mooring, creek etc

There are cheap swinging and half tide moorings available in the River Roach - Off the the River Crouch. If you need more PM me

At the entrance of the River Medway, which leads into the Thames, you have an extensive mooring field in a very quiet location. Queenborough is a first stopover for people coming across the Channel going to London.

Watertaxi at the weekends, else an All-Tide-Landing to row over (at slack!), train station pretty nearby.

Local yachtclub should be helpful: http://www.btinternet.com/~kentnet/sailkent/guides/queenbor.html#clubs

Gravesend sailing club on the River Thames is part of a canal basin opposite Tilbury power station. There are moorings in the basin, lock gate opens about half an hour either side of high water. Telephone the lock keeper for prices etc. Good shopping train station etc. Queenborough is also a prettier option but trains are probably more difficult. Lock keeper at Gravesend:Tel:01474 352392

You could try giving Bernie HM at Brightlingsea a call, don't know what he'd charge you or availability mite be worth a shout. Aint got the no. to hand but in the book.
