Cheap deck shoes

Thanks Brian. ;)

Just bought two pairs as well - size 9, brown and blue.

So who cleared out the size 9 tan ones then .

That beats Cotton Traders who seem to do them for about £15 & Aldi who are a similar price.

But I have about 4 pairs already, having bought a few pairs during sales expecting them to not last long, & I am still wearing the first pair I bought about 5 years ago! :D

Good deck shoes:

Don't you get what you pay for? Mine are 14 years old.

Unfortunately Dubarry deck shoes are nowhere near as good as they were. I think they are made in China now.
I used to buy a pair of DB Admirals at Southampton BS every other year, after a couple of wearings they fitted like a glove, the leather was really soft and the soles were thick and comfortable to walk in even on stones.
My last pair bought last year have been horrible, hard leather, thin soles and generally uncomfortable. May as well buy cheap ones now they all come from China.

Same story with some Musto shoes (£80+). Uppers fine after 2-3 years but the rubber/plastic used on the soles has hardened and they are now extremely slippery.

That saying, my Dubarry sea boots are really worth the money imo

I view deck shoes as my first line of safety... I need to stay put on the deck and want ones that grip..

I buy expensive ones for sailing and take them off before I step ashore... then I buy cheapos for wearing around the place...

I've had two pairs of (expensive) Musto deck shoes and been very dissatisfied. I don't know why I bought the second pair after trouble wiyh the first.

After a couple of years the soles seemed to turn hard and completely lose their grip. Cheaper one I have had didn't seem to suffer from this.

Perhaps I should phone up their customer services and ask about their lifetime guarantee.

That is exactly what I do. Why would you want dirt and krap off the street in the cabin is another good reason to do this.

As for the comments on the Musto shoes, I have a pair which are now just about worn out and the soles are still soft and grippy. Hardening of the sole material is something I found with cheapies and now avoid them on the boat.
