Leave at HW. Go at about 5 knots through the water, you should get to North Forland at slack water. The tide will then turn to take you down to Ramsgate. Total time about 7 - 8 hours.

Don't do it ! Keep going as far as Dover. Ramsgate is the total pits - expensive, filthy and unhelpful.

Looks like Ramsgate may be off the menu for Saturday night. If the forecast is to be believed, we intend to spend the night on the boat chasing smoothounds and some of the big bass that are about at the moment.
Someone suggested the Oaze is a good place to try so we may anchor up in the middle there for the night and turn off all our lights so as not to scare the fish - JK BTW before anyone replies
Anyone passing on Sunday morning who fancies a fish breakfast, just give us a shout.

Are we talking about the same Ramsgate? I was there with Hump and Jay delivering "Sgt Pepper" from Chichester to Hartlepool this spring. We had an autopilot problem and the range of Marine Services guys underneath the arches opposite the marina could not have been more helpful.

Ramsgate has better pubs, restaurants and a friendlish yacht club bar with a fine view; there is generally a holiday atmosphere in the town. Wheras Dover has the roar of heavy trucks day and night; the town is dour and full of glum-faced desperados. I was there for one tide last week and anchored in the outer harbour to avoid all of the above - give me Ramsgate any day.
