Off to Chatham Marina over the bank holiday with 3 other boats. Haven't been there before so looking forward to heading somewhere new, but wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere for dinner for Saturday night that is easily accessed from the marina?

I have to say we were totally underwhelmed with our recent visit to Chatham.

There's a pub (can't remember the name) that seems to serve typical frozen pub food at the end of the marina.

Alternatively there is a Chinese and a Mexican next to the shopping centre, we chose not to use any of them and threw something together on board.

Earlier this year we had a day out at the Chatham Historic Dockyard. We had a snack in a cafe in the dockyard and lunch in the restaurant there.

Next time we'll take sandwiches.

We are off round your part of the world on Friday hopefully at Teddington on Friday eve and then on up wherever, coming back following Ist Monday in Sept.after Windsor do ,when you coming round,we can wave and I can complain about your wash during the rest of my journey.
You really need to get to the other side of the river you will see the castle in Upper Upnor opposite the lock gate.

2 pubs
The Kings Arms (01634 717490)pretty good grub bit above average sort of prices or just down the road virtually next to the Castle is the Tudor Rose(01634 715305),wonderful old georgian pile with basic cheap pub grub only three tables so v.small.
Lower Upnor is more modern,Two pubs The Ship(01634 290553) smallish and usually full of saily/boaty types and the The Pier, bit bland but right on the river front.
If you like Thai the best restuarant is Grandma Thai in the High St (01634 849495)
Virtually everything and anything decent is a 10 min taxi ride away with most of the better quality restuarants of all stripes clustered near the Cathedral in Rochester High St.

Ps.For a quick trip go up round the corner under Rochester Bridge and moor up at the pier opposite (£1.00)the Castle, secure mooring and ideal for wander round old bit of town and visit to Castle and Cathedral, just be make sure back by dusk cos they lock the blimming gates

Thanks for the effort in putting that together Fred, much appreciated! I'll run it past the rest of the guys about getting a couple of taxi's, just a shame there isn't a ferry to Upnor, looks lovely! We're heading to St Kat's on the afternoon tide, so will no doubt pass you heading the other way, will try not to spill your g & t's when we go past /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Believe it or not, we've enjoyed a couple of good pies in the upstairs pub (Porters?) adjacent to Dickens World. The pub is part of the theme site, a short walk away from the marina, between the cinema and the retail outlets. You don't have to pay an entry fee to get to the pub, which is like a London pub inside.

Mind you this was some months ago in the depths of a rainy winter, I'd want to check out the beer (I mean the menu) again first.

Might be just the thing to do whilst others are bending the plastic in the retail outlets!

If I've whetted your curiosity enough, go and have a look and let us know whether it's still any good.

There is a tunnel under the Medway which runs from just outside the Marina and comes out close to the road into Upnor, just one teeny problem its cars only.
A taxi should charge you for about a 2 mile journey.£ 4.40 for the first mile and £1.60 a mile after for up to 4 people,if you arrange a people carrier it will cost 1.50 per person extra so if you fill an 8 seater works out at about £1.50 each pp per trip.
