This morning someone discharged a large amount of diesel into the marina basin. The protocol that has to be followed is for the lock to be closed to stop it getting into the Medway. Until the spill is cleared up (nothing happened today) and the Environment Agency has approved it, the lock remains closed. The last time something similar happened, the lock was closed for 2 days. If you were intending to visit Chatham, please telephone to see if they are open. 01634 899200

Thanks for the info.

I was crossing the Pye Sands yesterday and heard that Ipswich Lock has problems and there are long delays getting through,

The lock reopened this afternoon. The marina submitted photos to the Environment Agency this morning for permission to reopen. The culprit has not been disclosed or the marina are not saying.
