Hi all,

I'm a bit stuck. I've been looking for charts that cover the river mersey and the liverpool area but can only find "Cardigan Bay to Liverpool: (Imray C.Chart)"

It doesn't go into enough detail and also misses off a chunk of the mersey.

Any ideas on where I can find a chart for this area?

The almanac probably tells you everything you need to know if you only want to get to the marina, but Admiralty 3490 "Ports of Liverpool" shows it in detail as far as it is charted. If you are looking to get past that point, presumably to Fidlers Ferry, you will need local knowledge.

We carry for that area:
Imray:
- Irish sea
- Cruising Anglesey and adjoin waters guide (covers Liverpool approaches)
Admiralty:
-Great Ormes head to Liverpool,
-Approaches to Liverpool
-Port of Liverpool

If you simply want to access the marina you hardly need a chart of the Mersey as the approach is so obviously buoyed with light characteristics in Reeds. There is a chart of the Upper Mersey (East of Garston Docks), Admiralty 3478, but it hopelessly out of date. PM me if you need 2009 waypoints to get to Fiddlers Ferry. For the River Alt you are better off with OS Map Southport and Chorley.

This is as good as Garmin Mapsource gets

it may help

If you are local to Merseyside you can purchase all charts including the local ones from DPM in the Port of Liverpool building DPM
Port of Liverpool chart is no. 3490

As Ridgy said " the Almanac gives you all the information you need" it is a straight forward channel and the "biggest" problem is the ships that use it. keep well to the sides of the channel and batten down as they leave a good sized wake when passing in close quarters.

The channel is marked all the way to the marina lock gate. After that it needs local knowledge as the sand banks move almost as you watch them./forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I haven't been in for a while but the club house was always good food and friendly!

PS Bigwow will be able to give you any more info you need. Drop him a PM.

The river actually goes beyond the marina (shock), if this is what you are looking for then the best is to pop into Fidlers Ferry or Spike Island. Otherwise piece of cake as written above

Bear in mind that it is probably a requirement under harbour bye laws that appropriate charts are carried. No one's ever been inspected but if there were an accident.................

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif They'd be sure to send divers down to look for your paper charts - and sue your estate. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Just tell'em you dropped the H/H Garmin overboard with Bluecharts on it.
