Chartplotters on Windows Vista

Trying to findout what runs and what doesnt on the new Windows Vista.
If anybody is successfully running any of the main chartplotters ie,
Maxsea V 10 on
Maptech/Rose Point Chart Navigator Pro
Maptech Offshore Navigator
C-map ECS,
or any others
on Vista please post and let me know what and if there were any problems before I take the plunge on a new laptop which will obviously come loaded with vista.

Out here we have option to buy with Vista / Linux / XP etc. - the choice affects price we pay .... even buy with no op system.

I'm looking at a couple of new Notebooks very soon and we discussed in my office and decided we will stick with XP at the moment ... but to be honest - our work is not so demanding on ops system ...

BTW - just looked at a new Acer at less than £400 out here ... with Dual Layer DVD write and built in WiFi ... etc. Nice. Seems Christmas may come a little earlier ...

IMHO I would stick to XP for now - you will be able to get laptop's from last year (with a good discount) still installed with XP. Try Laptopsdirect - they have a good range and good support.

I won't be upgrading to Vista until at least Service Pack 1 is released to fix all the initial inevitable bugs.

I think you need minimum 1gb memory for Vista, with 2gb recommended from what I hear - this is lots - all our Nav stuff runs very quickly with 512mb on XP.

I would opt for XP if you can

Would agree - unless you esp. need Vista, for a machine which will be fairly focused on task, why not stay with XP...

If you want new Dell will still allow you XP on any machine - if it is not an option on their website, phone them, quote the code no and say 'I want XP' while you are on there, you can then negotiate all sorts of other things!

No problem running Maxsea on Windows/Vista (Home Premium). But generally Vista is a pain, I agree with others, stick with XP if possible.
