Chartplotter wiring loom

I've just bought a Garmin Gpsmap 555. I have no intention of connecting another device to it. Is there any technical reason why I can't open the outer sheathing on the wiring loom and discard all but the positive and negative cables? It would then be easier to run the cables into the cabin.

Why not run the cables from the cabin and put a waterproog plug on?
At least it would be resellable when you have finished with it......
