I have decided to buy a chartplotter Standard Horizon 300 (7in screen). I have the choice between the 300i which has an internal areal or the 300 which has an external areal. I will be using the chartplotter on the cockpit as well as inside the cabin but near to the hatch. I think the 300i with the intrnal areal will be able to pick up the signal when used inside the cabin. I am right? What is your experience?
Thanks

We've just fitted the 300i, and it definitely works inside the cabin for us. Looks like a good plotter for the money. Setup is reasonably quick & intuitive.

Cheers.

I actually have the external aerial 300, because I wanted a flush mounted plotter, but still keep the aerial inside the cabin, as it is one less hole. Still works fine.

As has already been noted it should work fine, so long as your cabin is not made out of anything too hefty.

The best deal on charts is to get the C-Map Max Mega Wide (one covers all of western europe) at the same time as the plotter, expect to pay a little over 100 quid doing it that way.

I bought a 300i and have been debating where to locate it.
Initially I thought of placing it on the pedestal guard after
seeing this setup on Griff Rhys-Jones's recent program.
I'm usually singlehanded so this would be the best location
for me. Although reassured by the vendor (well they would,
wouldn't they?) about its being sufficiently waterproof in this
location, I'd prefer some independent views. I do intend putting
some precautionary tape over the chart chip hatch and unused
rear connections but will this suffice ?

Cheers

I want to know the answer to this too.
Otherwise I'm contemplating an A65 in the cockpit, which is where it's needed especially shorthanded.
