Looking at prices in Galicia I can rent a modern yacht for 200 euros a day so between two couples it would be quite reasonable to sail around the ria for a day to see if we are still fit enough and compos mentas,I have certificate for patron which should be adequate,it’s an idea

(A great idea, except it's distraction from actually making a decision! Note also that it's just as likely to put Mrs.W off sailing, if she's not practised at such things, as it is to persuade her of the merits of getting a boat. )

Mrs W although not knowing how to tie a bowline and has the annoying habit of winding a mooring line rounda cleat just loves sailing

Seems eminently sensible to me - especially if you find a boat you like that is available regularly. All the pleasure of getting out there, easy to upgrade/ downsize, no capital outlay, no maintenance. In your esteemed case not having to make a final decision has to count as a plus too, and the benefit that if you find you really can't do it anymore there's nothing lost.

Having to take your gear/ supplies to the boat every time is a drawback, but you'd soon get the hang of the logistics. I do think it's vastly preferable to have the same boat every time - much easier on the brain if muscle memory can do most of the work.

So you have halved the cost to €100 by sharing with another couple...good idea.
If you want to halve the cost again....I suggest charging Mrs Wansworth half
