Please can anyone suggest suitable places for a late season charter. A good friend of mine has just found out he needs a major op for cancer, which means he can't come sailing with me in August. I'd like to arrange a late season trip somewhere , preferably fairly warm and hassle free, which I can cheer him up with.I've no experience of charter abroad and would value recomendations. I'm looking at the last 2 weeks October and up to 8 people. Thanks in advance.

Turkey usually still pretty warm in late October, though the winds are less predictable, anything from nothing to storms, though you would be unlucky to get anything much more than force 6 in the south as opposed to the west coast.

I chartered from Kos at the end of October and went north to Patmos, fantastic .. although we had to cope with f8/9 on a couple of days

Late October in the Mediterranean will offer very warm sea, and probably one (if you're lucky) or maybe two breaks of four days of unsettled weather.

Unsettled weather means cloud cover, some rain (probably ex thunderstorms) and if you're unlucky, a cold front. Those may include some short periods of really hectic wind . . . so treat with care.

For sure, four days of unsettled weather out of 14 is pretty good, and the crowds are gone. But you do have to wary of the possibility of those hairy winds, so a well sheltered cruising area may be in order - the Inland Ionian offers lots of safe bolt holes, but many of the tavernas will be closed.

The northern Dodecanese is also pretty good (based from Kos).

So late, you may have difficulty finding flights, which (in Greece) would limit you to places accesible from Athens. Not impossible, although the Saronic is rather more prone to thunderstorms than other Greek areas.

Balearics offer some nice cruising in this season too, and better flight connections.

More detail about the above areas on my website.

Seychelles....

No hurricanes, still best season. prices on boats from Moorings are competitive, fabulous sailing, great beaches...

fly direct from UK now twice weekly (I think).

Bout a 9-10 hour flight.
