Thinking of chartering in Turkey early June, possibly from Gocek, but have heard that noisy parties on gulets can disturb the peace and quiet. We prefer to anchor and avoid marinas on overnight stops. Does anyone have any experience of this and the routes they follow and if so can they be avoided.

Must be 5 years since we went there bu it was extremely peaceful. Stayed around the bay of Fethyie, lots of small bays with pontoons, mostly unofficial but very welcoming. No charge then for staying but buy your dinner from them! Gulets were around during the day. They came out of Fethyie and went to the same spots every day. Easily avoided 'cos they go like an arrow towards their destination. The occupants were probably pi$$ed before they got on board.
Things may have changed but we had a nice time. Going round to Kalkan is easy, very nice little village.

Noisy gulets is not a problem I remember from my dozens of trips in that area, though they were not usually quite that early in the year. (However it was June last year and will be mid-May this.) Anchring can be tricky for the same reason as many other Mediterranean places: the water can be deep very near the shore. For instance in Cold Water Bay, just S of Fethiye on the other side of the peninsula, the restaurant offered a mooring service where they tie you to the rocks. (See maps.google.co.uk)

+1. It's also great out from Marmaris

In many of the bays in the Gulf of Gocek there are buoys and corresponding posts onshore which you must use to moor to. You are not allowed to drop anchor. This has supposedly been imposed because of overcrowding and the associated damage to the environment. We did not find it an inconvenience in May 2011 when we were last in that area and it is a lovely area to sail even though it can be very busy (especially weekends).
There are bays further east near Fethiye and beyond at Karacoren which are quieter. Kalkan mentioned by Whiskey Bravo has developed into a big resort since the new road was put through and is very busy with many land based tourists. It can also be a hard sailing back to Gocek from that direction especially if you are pushed for time and can't afford to wait a few days.
Marmaris is a good base too, and you might consider Turgutreis as a base from which to sail in the Gulf of Gokkova.
