Charter in Croatia

In my boatless state (for now), I am looking at a charter in Croatia possibly in early June. I have done this before, many moons ago when it was still Yugoslavia and it was just fantastic. The marinas were immaculate and you could drop anchor and see it hit the bottom 30 feet down. The marinas at the time were very cheap and so was fuel (both for the boat and me).

Anyone got any recent experience? What do the marinas cost now? Meals out? Several bottles of red wine? (I'll take my own malt!).

I am looking a Marex 280 out of Split - single Yanmar, 20knts tops and easy 15 knt cruise - Plenty of accommodation for me and the boss - apparently they have even stretched to kitting the boats out with GPS now! This appears to cost about £2200 for a couple of weeks but I am slightly nervous about other costs - anyone know?

The other possibility is something called an Adria, which appears to be a more locally built boat (well Spain or Italy I think). This is a bit cheaper but slightly larger and with twin 80hp Yanmars & 11knt cruise - Anyone tried one?

Nick, there was an article in MBM, I think, a few months back. I've got an Italian friend who has a boat in the Adriatic and he's constantly raving about the Dalmatian Coast. I dont know about Croatia but Slovenia, the next country up, has cheap fuel and fags. I would say that June is pretty hot in the Adriatic so I would be looking for a boat with aircon.
Have a look at www.bby.si. This is a big boat dealer there. Their site has links which may lead to other charter companies or e-mail them for info

Re: worrying costs

ooh it'll cost a fortune, or at least it'll seem that way for tight scottish types. There's airport tax and unless you hitch a lift to the airport there's car parking too! Save some money by mixing your own suntan lotion from old engine oil and then add a bit of free liquid soap in the airport bog. Wine is about a quid. That's right - a whole flipping quid! So perhaps try vinegar or water instead.

Re: Charter in Croatia LOVELY

Hello Luck you,
I had two weeks on one of the islands BOHL, lots of clear blue sea not many boats around....Price is fine, eating out 4 people drinks etc around £50 etc etc. Try looking at http://www.aci-club.hr/ or go to yahoo.com and search under croatia or slovenia yacht hire etc etc
Let me know as I may be out there around that time as well I will be back...But please do not tell to many people...
