Two questions:
Any recommended charter companies? Seem to be lots of options. Looking for sub 40' sleeping six in three cabins. Me, son and d-i-l and their two daughters 13 and 10.
Will it be unbearably hot at that time?

It could be very hot - we’ve had some boiling Julys. But other years it’s been a pleasant early 30s with nights in late teens or early 20s.

You will find Pole (Pula) and surroundings quieter and lots of interesting places to visit: north to Rovigno (Rovinj), south to Unite, Lussinpiccolo (Mali Losinj) and all the islands. Too hot? Difficult to say these days with climate being so unpredictable, and it depends on what you mean by 'too hot', of course.
Get the '777' pilot book: essential for finding quiet bays. Watch out for the (predictable) bora when crossing the Quarnero (Kvarner) south from Pole: it gets very rough.

Sailed through Croatia last July. Both Dubrovnik and Pula were hot, but as soon we got out on sea the temperature got back to «a warm sommers day». From my first experience I prefer Istria, less cruise ship crowds. Possibly the finest experience was Susak, a days sailing south of Pula.

Susak is worth a visit as it is the only island in the Croatian archipelago which is made from sandstone so the beaches are sand rather than shingle.

I believe that, geologically speaking, Susak is actually part of the Italian land mass.

I have had my boat based in Marina Veruda in Pula for around 9 years.

My impression from observing the charter fleets in Veruda is that Pitter seem to be the best kept fleet - had a friend charter from them last year and we spent a week sailing round the islands south of Pula. Boat was in very good condition for its age.

PM me if you want the lowdown on things to do and places to visit in that neck of the woods - no obligation, I'll give my opinion but part of the fun is exploring yourself.

My boat will be out and about all through July, first me then my brother - weather is usually warm and sunny in July, not as hot and crowded as August.

If you do charter from Veruda, do not omit to visit the Marina in Pula town. There are not many marinas that are overlooked by a Roman Amphitheatre.
If the weather is OK, then spend a night in Brijuni National Park. Tie up in the little marina and hire bikes as soon as the bike rental man opens. You can then cycle around the island before the tripper boats arrive. A really unusual place

But beware: very, very expensive mooring fees by all accounts....
