Any recommendations or otherwise for the above?

Something similar to insurance4 carhire etc

Cheers!

You haven't given us enough information to give you a specific recommendation.

We usually take out the waiver, but they always have constraints. Didn't help us when we "lost" our dinghy + outboard overnight. We still had to pay a "recovery fee" when it was returned by the police. Or when we bent our anchor...

I paid quite a lot of money to a German insurance company for skippers insurance for a Croatian charter.

Long story but our bow anchor scraped another yacht. Insurance quite useless. We were told that we would have to get the other owner to sue our charter company who would then need to withhold our deposit to have a valid claim. All this would need statements from owners of both boats and the port “Captain “ all to be done in the few hours before we flew home. It would have been impossible to organize so I paid(probably too much) to the other owner to avoid my boat being arrested.

Post return correspondence with the insurance company could be described as a polite eff off.

I don't believe there is an equivalent. Personally I always use insurance4 carhire type cover and have never had to claim. I suspect that the fact that you tell the car hire desk that you have this cover means they don't try to sting you for the same scratch that three previous hirers have already paid to be repaired.

As owner of a charter boat that I try very hard to keep in very good condition I would really much prefer that charterers did not think damage did not matter as they were covered.

For a charter boat damage is more than just a financial penalty for the person causing it: unless just cosmetic it can cause the next charter or even several to be cancelled - inconvenience and annoyance for them and a loss of income for the owner/operator. And even if only cosmetic it affects the experience of the subsequent charterers until there is a chance to fix it. Unlike car hire companies who mostly have enough vehicles that even if a car is undriveable they can probably find a replacement quickly.

Thanks all for the advice which has been well noted!

First time chartering so very useful.

Cheers.
