Hi

Can anybody help me to find a company where I can charter a motorboat 40 – 45 feet (bareboat) for a two-week-trip this summer.

Our favoured areas are:

Cornwall / Isles of Scilly
or
Orkney Islands /North Scotland
or
Shetland

I googled now many hours but I didn’t found anything.

Thanks

Bareboat almost doesn't exist in the UK
Java Charter can offer a motorcat30 and a Sealine F37 in the solent but I suspect thats all you will find

We spent some time looking for 3 cabin bareboat charters last summer, and found a 2008 Targa 52GT in Croatia. It was the biggest we found. If I remember it was approx 9,000 euro a week, late season.

Thanks to all – I chartered the last dozens years many many times in the med and the adriatic sea until 55 feet. But now, I’m interested to do a trip more in the north. No problems about the competency, I’m holder of that competency who is equal to the RYA Yachtmaster offshore.

@ coastgal: Thanks for the link – I’ve found it before, but they do rent the bigger boats only with skipper.

@ dkm: Thanks, I will check Java Charters.

Does anybody have other ideas, where I can get a boat?

[/ QUOTE ]Apologies for not being able to help on your question and drifting a bit, but I'm not aware of any sort of "equivalency" between RYA certifications and those used in other Countries.
Can you explain further? Thanks!

In english? Oh dear! But I try it ;-)

Swiss citizen HAVE TO make a competency called “Hochseeschein” (transl. “offshore license”) to command a yacht (sail and/or motor) for pleasure purposes. This competency allows worldwide boating. To get this competency, the following requirements have to be fulfilled:
- License for inland waters
- theory exam of 7 hours, preparing lessons of the exam are about 40 hours. Including tidal calculation (2 hours), whole navigation (3 hours) and theory questions (2 hours)
- after the theory exam: 1000 miles of sailing/boating whithin 4 years, including some education contents. Ship has to sail at sea and at most manned by two professional Crews. Confirmation of the miles from a competency holder is required. The candidate has to participate between all the 1000 miles to steer, navigate, write logbook, weather forecasts, line handling, stand watch etc.
- and some physical abilitys

I think, this is like a mix between the RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore.

Swiss citizen CAN (optional) make a continuing competency called “C-Schein” (“C-license”). To get this competency, the following requirements have to be fulfilled:
- License “Hochseeschein” (see above)
- Theory exam of about 6 hours, including the whole astronavigation. Preparing lessons of the exam are about 50 hours.
- after the theory exam: 2000 miles of sailing/boating with at least 10 astronomical positions findings. Ship has to sail at sea and at most manned by two professional Crews. Confirmation of the miles from a competency holder is required. The candidate has to participate between all the 1000 miles to steer, navigate, write logbook, weather forecasts, line handling, stand watch etc.

I think, this is like the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean.

I made the astronomical competency. For that reason I’ve written in the other post that my competency is equal to the Yachtmaster Offshore (or even the Yachtmaster Ocean because of the astronomical part).

By the way: VHF/GMDSS are not included in our competencys, so we have to make the LRC/SRC separately if needed.

A little bit strange is, that the swiss citizens have one of the hardest education in the world to be permitted boating on sea, but we don’t have directly contact to an ocean…

We have a range of boats on the web site
www.oceandrivecharter.com Targa 47s 40s etc go to the web site and click charter then charter prices. Deposit of £5K is about the average this is realy the insurance excess. returnable if the boat is undamaged at end of charter.

All boats are fully coded and complient with British regulations and also Spanish Authorities.

Insurance covers the vessel for bareboat charter, and charter costs cover berth in Mahon for the duration of stay. Please see terms and conditions for further details.

A great boat for a couple may be the Cranchi Zaffiro 34 twin D4s 260hP which is actualy 37'9" on a premium berth in the port of Mahon and makes a good choice for up to four persons. And very roomy for a couple. This is an ideal choice for exploring the island.

If I can help in any way or assist you towards making the best choice, please either pm or go through contact us page on web site.

Thanks Gskip,

I have my favorite charter companies at the balearic islands, because I do boating there since 1997.

Now, I’m interested in the areas specified in my first post.

Jokes apart, thanks for your very detailed feedback, but my question was slightly different.
I understood that by "equal to the RYA Yachtmaster offshore" you implied some sort of formal recognition, not just the comparability of exams or experience.
I mean, I also have a non-RYA license (Italian) enabling to skipper any pleasure boat up to 24m LOA with no restrictions whatsoever.
But for instance, I can not apply directly for a RYA commercial endorsement, because RYA doesn't recognise an "equivalence" of the IT license with its certifications - and neither the other way round, by the way.
At least to my knowledge. Happy to stand corrected, if anyone knows differently.
