Chart updates.

My e charts are about 4 years out of date. I run a Lowrance chart plotter Elite 5
Please be gentle with me as electronics and me don't mixed that well
Questions 1/ Is it cheaper to update my existing charts
2/ Can I use an ipad2 and download all the charts, can it be run/linked to the Elite 5 OR is there something I'm totally missing the point with???

Costs £100 to either swap your existing card for an updated one, or to buy a Nav+ card which, authorised by your existing card, allows you to update onto the NAv+ card. The last has an extra layer of data, compared to the standard Gold card.
The use with iOS7 or Android is an entirely different route and, in my case, not one I'd choose as I have a very large and detailed chart area which would cost me a lot to download as Apps onto a smaller screen and a less accurate GPS device.
