I came out through the Eider River a few years ago instead of the Kiel Canal at Brunsbutal from the Baltic. I remember most of the navigation buoys were on their sides on sandbanks as the channel seemed to be in constant movement. Very East Coast of England but in fact West Coast of Germany and Denmark.

The Danes would of course disagree about it being the West Coast of Germany and they still feel aggrieved about losing Schleswig Holstein and have nasty thoughts about Britain and Helgoland.

They also used to own Norway and large chunks of Sweden.

And even large junks of the UK and Ireland. Particularly the Danelaw. But they upset King Alfred causing him to burn his cakes so he was almost successful in driving them out and uniting England. And wasn't King Canute at Clacton or Brightlingsea or somewhere nearby when he tried to stop the tides?

My copy of South Coast Cruising suggested that Bosham in Chichester Harbour laid claim to this event but wiki suggests Southampton or Thorney Island

I heard it was near Canewdon (Canute's town?) on the Crouch, though he'd have had trouble setting a throne up on our luvverly mud...
