I had a little rough passage recently and I found that my chart table needs to have a secure fixing for the top. Any suggestions as to how to securely fasten the top down?

It feels like there's a lovely bit of understatement in that sentence...

The only catch I've ever had was on the side - a chunky question mark shaped hook, with a brass retainer on the underside of the lid.

My chart table was 1 metre square, made of 1/2" marine ply with a hardwood fiddle, hinged at the back.

I think if I had ever been in weather bad enough to cause that to lift, it would have been kept in place by the grab-bag on top of it 🙄

Except the grab bag would be elsewhere in the cabin by then.

I did have to rearrange the crockery storage after 2 plates went awol and one broke in "a bit of weather"
