I have been using this route planning software for some time and have been very happy with it. A couple of months ago I found that it no longer worked. After a few weeks of non-use I felt spring arriving and started it up. It all runs happily except that there are no charts – the outline is there but there is no image. I can still run the original version I had (Offshore Navigator Lite) and this displays the charts correctly – it uses the same charts in the same place. The newer version runs correctly with the PC in safe mode (Win XP). Unfortunately my anti-virus software makes safe mode very hard to get into and the last time I tried it took me two days to get back to normal (for safe mode read very unsafe mode). Can any computer buffs out there offer any suggestions? My best idea so far is to buy a new computer and start again!

Thanks both for the good advice. I have spoken with the Maptech support people both in the UK and in the US. They have not encountered anything like this and couldn't really offer anything practicable. I have tried reinstalling it with and (on advice) without the anti-virus running. I can't make the thing work!!! My last hope was that somebody else might have encountered and overcome the same problem.

Sorry my earlier suggestion didn't help resolve it- I have Maptech charts on my PC and PDA & Memorytech were helpful with installation problems I ran into when trying to install the CD on another PC- there were reg code problems, but it looks as if yours are very different. One thing you could try is installing the software on another (borrowed?) computer to rule out possibility that the software itself has been corrupted in some way- at least if it works, you will know it is your particular computer set up, tho how you then deal with that knowledge is beyond my expertise I am afraid!

Good luck

Well thanks for the advise. I thought I was asking a bit much given that the manufacturer couldn't help. I think another machine it is. At least they have halved in price since I last bought one - and more than doubled in power. All I need to do is to track down a supplier who still installs XP and not the appalling Vista.

Before lashing out loads of dosh (and assuming you prove the s/w works on another PC) it might be worth trying a system restore to a restore point before the time when you found you had a problem (a couple of months back?). After all, you know it worked before...
If you've not done this already then it may be worth a try: Click Start - Help and Support - ...System Restore. Then try to find a suitable restore point. This won't affect any of your data but will (hopefully) put the operating system back to the configuration it was in when CN used to work for you.
