duz anyone kno what these are called? They aren't the big 2 inch squarish ones and nor are they the navionics garm ones with metal on one side - they plastic black and are about 1.5- 2cm max in one direction and 1 - 1.5 cm in the other only a few cm thick and trapeziumish shaped in cross section so you can only puttem in one way.

Hang on, navionics or Cmap?

TCM, hang on. The chips are unique to furuno, so you just need to ask for "Furuno chips". Cactus will know what that mean, as you have already discovered. This will ensure the chips physically fit in the machine. BUT you gotta tellem whether you want C-Map or Navionics data burned onto the chips, and which one you need depends on what your Furuno is set up for. If you tellem the wrong thing the chips they supply will be useless.

Afaik the furunos are default-supplied with navionics. If they are the CMap versions there is a CMap logo splodged on the front of the plotter unit, by the chip flap. I cant see that on the pics eg http://arweb.co.uk/aralbums/Lepredelivery/Dscf0197_001.sized.jpg so I think yours are navionics, but not sure. Do you know?

As back up, I can lend yer a (very thin and plane-carryable) laptop wiv all the charts loaded onnit, and then you just plug a hh gps in the back so it'll work like a plotter. I mean every single Cmap chart for the entire trip already preloaded on the hard disk. Will zoom right in to teeny scale charts for harbour entries etc. Not enough time to set it up to run your a/p, but you dont need that, the furunos will do that off the background worldmap built in. Do you want me to bring it round in the morning, or possibly late tonite? Or I'll meet you at luton airport Sunday am? Whatever.

I can also led you a garmin wiv lead to the com1 port, all set up, but your own will likely work fine. Can test all this stuff b4 you go. I can deliver (lateish) tonite or early tomorrow (gotta go to mancity tomorrow afternoon

Lemme know if this helps - it works well, I crossed Irish sea in an unknown boat with it all.
