Just a wee update, I ended up going for the B&G System. 3G radar, 7" Zeus touch, c/w fluxgate thing for MARPA, go-free wifi module for Ipad link(why not)
plus AIS receiver. I have the option to add the triton wind and display instruments also. Installation to follow shortly and speaking of which, because of the low emissions of the 3G broadband, I think I don't need to mount it too high up the mast? I realise its a bit of a trade off because radar essential works on line of site, so higher the better but keeping weight lower down is a key consideration....Any thoughts?

You certainly don't need to mount a 3g radar scanner high from the safety point of view - the emissions are very low. From the performance point of view, it is a trade-off - mounting it higher will get you a longer range, but it will also increase the level of background noise on the image from wave scatter. Which is more important to you - an over-the-horizon range that will allow you to see things that are not going to hit you for more than an hour, or the ability to see a floating oil drum half a mile away that you might hit in the next few minutes?
