DOnt believe Saturday will be 2 to 3. Wind guru gives it a bit more and all from the north

Skydish

I would hope JD's information is up to date. been as he works at air traffic control :)

Thanks Rob: I like FOG & SNOW !!!

Thats the forecast I am telling the Wife plus metcheck.com agrees 'ish'..........Condor/Aurigny are my get out of jail cards, I don't mind a rough passage even on my own but not fair on the family even though they are more than capable.

Just fixed (got it working) the skydish and box for the boat after much tampering and frustration. Found a great free app for the ipad called 'Commander Compass lite' Worth having even if not for aligning the skydish. The photo below shows the dish in the correct position / alignment with the ipad laying flush on the dish. The above app gives a very accurate heading / azimuth. I can now just use the ipad to align the dish when we tie up in a marina (fingers crossed). The heading / azimuth is the reciprocal to what 'skyfinder' etc would indicate as I am obviously looking at the screen on the ipad and not the direction the dish is pointing.

The wife will be happy, we had to endure "The Jungle Book" about 5 times last year in St Peter Port during torrential rain.

Bit of a disaster averted today. Went to move the boat from my mud mooring to get fuel and load up the excess baggage.

On leaving my mooring 'CLUNK'. I knew exactly what I had done, one of my mooring ropes round the port propeller. Bit of swearing and dilema, tried untying / pulling etc to no avail. No option but to get wet and get it sorted, probably took me 10 mins in the calm of the harbour, no way would it be possible holding breath when the boat is bobbing around. No pics as I was really not in the mood to get my camera.

Boat sorted and met up with Robg who arrived from Guernsey with precision timing to take some photos of his Sun-scarer. I must say the upholstery is top notch and if Robs new project is a reflection of the improvements he has done to this boat it will be a cracking project.

I'm hoping the Saturday forecast stays as predicted or gets even better because we're heading to Guernsey from Dartmouth.
I'm also equipped with a Free Sat portable dish and hope to use it when moored. I have to say I didn't quite follow how the App you mentioned works but thanks for the heads up. I'll download it and see what it can do.

Have a good one, keep us updated with your destinations. I'll probably be looking to go somewhere sun/mon, might even catch up with you. Looks like IOW in the rib isn't going to happen.

We left an hour later than planned thanks to an unexpected lie. Bit dull this morning but calm so leaving St Helier asked the family left or right ?? The answer was France and south so set course West of Chausey and were ashore by 11am.

Robg must of been at Jersey airport because the sun came out and was really warm all day.

I had not realised my wife had never visited Chausey, her comments were Amazeballs & stunning.

The wind was rising steadily throughout the day as forecast.

We left Chausey at 4 to head to St Cast or St Malo, good F5 by now so went for St Malo as likely t be here a couple of days and the are lots of options.......Dinard, Dinan, Hire car for Mt St Michel etc. Will try to post some photos tomorrow.

Chausey was stunning, French Gendarmerie were there in force following a fatality on Sunday.

I also made St. Peter port today, wind picking up all day so now snuggled down for the next two days and the wind can blow

Just thought I'd mention for other CI'ers calendars:

15th June - St. Helier Yacht Club has their "Evacuation" rally, to commemorate the Dunkirk style evacuation of St. Malo in 1940. Everyone gets dressed overall before entering the lock (that we blew up!) en masse into Bassin Vaubin followed by a reception at the St. Malo yacht club. I've been before, it's a good weekend.

22nd June - Sark to Jersey Rowing race. Plenty of local boat owners get involved here as each of the crews (circa 50) need their own guard boat as well as other official boats.
There's always a good pre race gathering at the Dixcart Inn as well as a big **** up in the evening at the Royal Yacht Hotel.

And one for Rob perhaps - 8th June I've been asked to take some visiting South Africans on a day trip to the Minquiers, you did ask to cadge a lift down there iirc.
Spring tides that weekend although not very big at coeff. 75/76, so works out quite well with a midday LW.

No worries Rob, there'll be other chances. Meanwhile I'll take full advantage of the great weather that'll mean. In fact, Windfinder already has changed to circa 5kts for Saturday, Sunday and Monday!

Wow, Bit breezy down in St Malo. Must be a good F6-7 Nw, at least the sun is shining.

Should of said we are in Bas Sablons at St Servan so not in St Malo but a 20 min walk away. Was not a goods night sleep been buffeted about quite a bit on the visitors pontoon. I had managed to get the most southerly space available last night but still uncomfortable.

Harbourmaster asked us to move this morning due to a yacht race. I was not too excited at the prospect with such uncomfortable conditions to relocate in and wife my wife and little lad onboard. Move was ok and new space much quieter and calmer.

Great day today with constant wind and sunshine. spent the morning wandering round St Malo and the array of boutique shops

Looking North from St Malo towards Fort National

Bas Sablons Beach and Marina

An absolute must for anyone visiting is a cafe called Timothy's. the cakes are 8inch tall. We only managed hot chocolate which was to die for.

This afternoon was spent in St Servan on the beach which was well sheltered.

off out for dinner now................

Fingers crossed for an opportunity to get home at the weekend

Bloody daft why they put the visitors on the pontoon nearest the marina entrance, even when it's flat calm you still get the wash off the ferries. If you arrive at the top half of the tide it's always worth locking through to Bassin Vaubin.

I'm off either sat eve or Sunday morning to Granville, leaving there Monday morning to spend the day in Chausey before home.
