Does any one know if you have to fit beaching legs to a CI22 to protect the rudder / prop on soft mud mooring ?

any tips or advice would be welcome, Happy New Year to all /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No not necessary, you can dry out alongside a sea wall if you want, did it many times with mine. On a soft mud mooring it may lie upright as it sinks in otherwise it will lean pretty well over but shouldn't be a problem.

You can dry out with aCI22 but at a jolly uncomfotable angle if the ground is hard. I found out once by parking accidently on a muscle bank that jumped out in front of me! Just the same with twin engines. Remembering all the bumf I collected before I had one , a pictire of several all with beaching legs pictured in Guernsey. My old one sits (where She has for 6 years )alongside a pontoon which dries to soft mud, no problem. So if you want to dry out on anything but soft stuff you will have to use the "lower" bunk cos you,l spill out the "upper" berth thats for sure. Stern gear protection should be fine unless She is a very early hull some of which had slightly different skeg arangements and as an earlier poster mentioned some early hulls were "home fit". As Longjohn said ok alongside seawall e.t.c, what vintage is She?

Thanks for the reply, my boat is designed by alan buchanan, built 1982, Mermaid Turbo 4 140 bhp .

arrangement is a double V berth in cabin, seperate head and galley, rear pull out double berth under canopy.

Prop and rudder fair distance from end of keel but mooring is definately soft mud.

Alas alas no bunks on bed so can't fall out

Thanks ever so much, I need reassuring, this is the only the thing that is stopping me to buy. I will also be looking for a trailer at resonable price to cut down on storing charges in winter etc. Any ideas ?

Also have to purchase windlas, any ideas what size?

Thats work over for 2004. So lets talk CI 22 before the wine kicks in! If your intending purchase is a 1982 it should have D section rubbing strake not the rope supposedly superseded in 81. The 140 mermaid will give up to 19kts down hill with the wind behind it at 2500 ish RPM, But 17kts acceptable for an "old" vessel. However at that rpm whispering sweet nothings in your parteners ears is a no no. I found 1900 is a nice criusing level which gave 12 to 14 kts depending on tide sea state e.t.c. Plus normal conversation can be held like "What the f***ck is that mussel bank doing here" and such comments can be made. I still own the trailer I towed my Beloved "BUCCANEER" from its almost final resting place in deepest Indian country in Central Anglesesy some years ago . Wouldn,t want to use it on the road again but ok for launch and recovery . Actually woudn,t want to tow a CI22 on the road again ,think a really proper bespoke trailer would be needed with todays regs. Windlass size can,t remember tonight going down to marina tommorow will check it out. Somwhere on "BUCCANEER" in the new owners house or mine is all you need to know about CI22! "BUCCANEER" had virtually total rebiuld over 5years Hull ,Engine , Interior , electronics, cosmetics ,aesthetics and a few times some paraletics have been aboard. Only sold Her because a nice Nimbus 27 berthed alongside me came for sale and I couldn,t resist . A lmost a divorce, must try harder next time ( sounds like a school report weve all had).New owner has been taken a little poorly and wants to sell ,wish I had the spondies to buy Her back ,now that would be "D.I.V.O.R.C.E. Just to say having rebuilt one before you purhase one of these cracking little ships call me if you want on 07050360006 or 01248714111 any time. if I try to continue this reply tonight I,ll have to stay sober so Happy New Year or Blwyddin Newydd Dda as we say round here.

Went down to Marina New Years day to do a job on a friends Newhaven Sea Warrior and check out the windlass on my old CI 22 for you but lo and behold some tw****ts had gained entry into my Cafe(opened earlier this year on the Marina, Port Dinorwic) sometime New Years Eve. Was going to have a nice day off fiddling about with boats ,as you do then a couple of jars ,as you do. The day went pear shaped after discovering the burgalry. The Ba****ds took wine and stuff but worst of all the Staffs Chrimbo tips jar and Diving helmet a good mate had given me to decorate the cafe. So sort of back to normal today nice customers popping in to offer sympathy and spend a few bob.Post some info on windlass e.t.c in the next day or so.

Re: Channel Islands 22 (Theseafisher)

Thanks for the last information, helpful, as I really dont want to fit beaching legs.

I think i shall get a trailer to suit boat but will be towing very short distance, eg 3 miles max. Will soon replace price of trailer with savings on winter storage in Salcombe. I have a drinking mate who is a farmer at Soar Mill.

I would really appreciate size of windlass, perhaps a few hints on fixing such item.

I havent signed contract on boat yet, brokers want 10% before I get sea trail, and £120 to bring boat to water and back for trial. Is this standard procedure as I have never dealt with marine brokers before.

I have noticed another C!22 for sale up north, but with a Volvo Penta Turbo. Any idea what size this would be?

Thankfully I have a very helpful niece and hubby who let me use their PC, so they are helping me out. (Don't know me port from me starboard on this yer puter. There again I dont have a er indoors, so dont get no ear ache).

best wishes the seafisher

While I was gabbling on here, didnt realise you had posted message. Sorry to hear about your bit of bad luck, hope they catch the so and so's, good luck for 2005

Ref canopy on your CI22. Commisioned a brand new one two years ago on mine. Guy made a great job . Including new stainless tubing Will ask No. One daughter to take some pics and wiz them to your E Mail address, could take some measurements or ask the maker for some . One way or another will furnish you with some gen, take me a few days but it will happen eventually! I have lots of pics of"BUCCANEER during refit and end result with mods to aft bunk area which may be of interest. PM with your address if you wish or phone No.s. That goes for any Forumites who might want to share information on these cracking little boats as I mentioned earlier I just about did a bare hull refit to "BUCCANNER".

Hi there ship mate, just a quickie, how much is your old CI22 up for sale and relevant details, age etc etc. You can send this info direct to my email address. Mucho thanks

Re: Channel Islands 22 (Theseafisher)

Thanks for that.Think we,ve got them on CCTV. Appreciate your computer illiterecey only one click ahead of you there! Yeah some brokers seem to want deposits before sea trials. The take to water and back out again seems to be the "Industry norm". What size is the Volvo up North and how old? The hull works well at semi displacement speeds ie cruising niceley at 12-14 kts, if you have strong tides in your area I would imagine 100 hp minimum with a modern engine. Sounds like your intended purchase was built towards the end of production I believe the last where circa 91. Does she have stainless fuel tanks or tank, some where grp this will give me an idea of other specs and tribulations you may encounter. Just had a quick look at info still held at home but can,t see any reference to Volvo engine size for that Year Gave the current owner lots of that kind of info reasearched during 1998 to 2004 when I sold Her it,s probably still on board will check My guess that at that period a TAMD 30 or 31 would be the model, not sure though not a Volvo afficianado. To give some guidline on values I sold "BUCCANEER" for 19500 last June. Sold the 2,nd day on the market but even if I say it myself She was a fully sorted vessel. Currentley on sale locally is a twin Volvo engined boat in outstanding condition for 28500 built in 88 or9 Ithink. Hope that lot helps. Be "online" most of tonight in between shifts in my Pizza Takeaway gaff. Don,t laugh I,m the Pizza delivery boy tonight!

"Shiver me timbers"! We be broadsiding messages at each other! Who pre empted who there? uncanny. New owner will probably want near enough what he paid me, don,t really know only guessing but obviously can find out pretty pronto.I will endeavor to electronically supply specifications If I fail to send you a brief message shortly No One daughter will be able to sort her old man out tommorrow or thereabouts check your mail in a bit.
