I have a gearbox problem and am trying to remove it.I have taken out 6 no bolts but it is not splitting from the bell housing.I then tried to remove the bell housing.I removed all the bolts from the bell housing. The joint between the bellhousing and the engine block split by about 5mm at the top but it will not come off.The gearbox was losing oil and may have seized.I think the seal between the gearbox and the bell housing might be defective as there were traces of oil in the bell housing. The gearbox is Borg Warner AS-11-72CR.
Would appreciate any suggestions. The obvious one is to get a professional!!!

Its hard to say without seeing the job at hand but perhaps a jack or lifting tackle to take the load of the gearbox off the input shaft? Or persevere with wedges to split it further. I would normally leave at least some of the bolts in but loose so as when the thing does come loose it only shifts as far as the end of the bolts and not into the bilge and through the bottom of the hull. Taking the weight of a joint/coupling can ease the removal though.

Hi - not sure if you've sorted this one or not yet.
We have seen similar situations in the past where the drive plate is stuck to the splines of the gearbox possibly through corrosion or some other contamination.
We do have a solution, but it would be best for you to talk this through with our service engineer. If you E-Mail me direct, I'll let you have his direct number so you can have a chat.
My E-Mail is j.townley@powertorque.co.uk

All the best.
