Mine was the same colour Richard , you got me thinking , would it be worth putting Grease between the seals ?

The Yanmar workshop manual says something like "cover both seals with waterproof grease before inserting" so I thought why not go the whole hog and fill the gap between the seals with the same grease as well. The Volvo looks like a very similar design although I'me not sure that it has the spacer between the two seals. However, if there is any gap, filling it with grease can only help surely.
