Alan d, yes I am concerned about damaging the seals when re-inserting the shaft.
Yours must be a different pump because Speedseal told they didn't do one for a 2 1/2", six hole model.

Take the sharp edges off the drive slot with a flat needle file! The seals can usually be repositioned to move to a fresh bit of shaft or obtan from a seal supplier the same size seal fit for sea water but double lipped. They are bog standard items this saves the cost of a new shaft .
