Fed up with silly 907 campingaz prices I have realised that Calor Lite 6Kg bottles fit perfectly in my gas locker :encouragement:
I have searched the forums & am still somewhat confused! What exactly do I need to make this change?

As sailorman said, all you essentially need is a propane regulator which fits the CalorLite bottle. You may have read that CalorLite bottles are much lighter in construction than regular bottles, and indeed were involved in a recall a while ago due to premature corrosion. Assuming your cylinder is protected in a locker, the CalorLite should be OK.

I guess you have a bottle mounted regulator on the CG bottles/

Calor lite is propane so you will need a POL regulator to fit propane cyls. Or a bulkhead mounted regulator and a pigtail with POL connection.

Are you sure your appliances are sutable for propane?

Consider a 30mb regulator that can be used ( with suitable pigtails) for either propane or butane/ camping gas

The option to use CG can be retained with an adapter valve for the CG cylinders .... IIRC they are available to fit either butane or propane pigtails.

Also consider the merits of a marine ( Annexe M) regulator. ( Additional "safety" features and corrosion resistant materials)

Now might also be the time to incorporate a bubble leak detector if possible

Plus a change over device for a 2 bottle system

Does propane not also burn burn hotter heating things quicker. I use 3.9 Kg propane just changed the regulator to suit propane valve.

For comparison, natural gas - as delivered to millions of homes via the gas mains - has the chemical formula CH4. When burnt, a cubic metre of natural gas will provide 38 Megajoules of energy.

Propane, chemical formula C3H8, produces 96 Megajoules of energy per cubic metre.

Butane, formula C4H10, produces 126 Megajoules of energy per cubic metre – more than either natural gas or propane.

Propane (CalorLite) may have a slight advantage for boat use as it maintains a better supply at low temperatures.

Thats an understatement !

Camping gas / butane is not useable below about 2 or 3 degrees C. Propane remains useable at any temperatures you will encounter.

I changed from Calor to camping gaz as I could not get the UK Calor gas bottles refilled in France.
All I did was fit the camping gas adapter instead of the Calor one.

So I guess going back the other way there is nothing else to change either.

But we normally buy our lpg by weight. There is only a small difference in the calorific values on weight basis

I changed over this year also, double the gas for half the money! :)

I know that you have posted this advice several times previously but I question why? I have been in the situation previously in a motorhome where both bottles were empty because the automatic device operated without my knowledge. I would prefer a simple manual changeover to know what is going on.

Agree with the last post.
On the subject of gas can someone please tell me what you currently pay for a 13Kg of propane in the UK. Thanks.

I decided to keep the Gaz 907, but added a change over switch and a Calor bottle. The 907 acts as reserve.
