changing flag from portugual to uk

Can any one inform me on the protocol on changing the flag of a boat from portugual to uk and costs involved. Been scouring the net but not to much info out there any help would be greatly appreciated.

No just about to do transaction for a boat which is on a portugese flag but but is based in spain is it a quick afair changing over or can it be a bit of a mindfeild ?

You need to deregister from the Portuguese register first. Don't know the exact procedure, but will almost certainly be long winded and possibly cost. It is the seller's responsibility (or his broker) to do this, not yours. However you cannot register it elsewhere while it is still on another register.

Whether you can register on the British register depends on you and your status. If you are resident in the UK the easiest way is to use the Small Ships Register. Very straightforward, done on line and costs £25. You can find the eligibility rules on the MCA website and procedure for applying. Alternatively, if you qualify you can register on the Part 1 register but this is more long winded and expensive. Details again on the MCA site.
