We have not got a full diagnosis yet ,or the results of any examination or special test(s) all we have is a brief history of the symptoms .----
From what the op said he suspects muliple rapid in direction as the primary cause of the shear pin # .
I,am not so sure as expressed in post # 3 .
Firstly they ,or mine ( Vetus ) does not rapidly change from L + R ,if you attempt to do that there's a natural built in pause as it waits to stop turning one Dir before it starts the other thus a kinda of protection .
Think about it if that protection was not built in then shear pins would # on every outing -they don,t .
Secondly a stubborn ,or worn gearbox ( corroded gears ) from ingress of seawater due to seal failure ,low or none exsist ant
Oil top up ,cos it buried under the front cabin bed out of sight .
Op says anode was changed ,and looking at the various diagrams it looks simple enough not to deter doing .
Of course we all hope it was a bag or something temporary snagging ,fracturing the € 3 part .
In a new boat yes ,in a 10 Y boat ----hmm
So if I suspect deeper gearbox issues ,when the motor is lifted there will be initial relief to see a # shearpin ,followed by further disapointment as it soon goes agian of goes straight away as the gears are jammed .
Might have been worth jumping in and attempting to turn the prop by hand to see if they moved .
If they don,t and the motor spins then the pins gone AND the gears are jammed .
Like outdrives and IPS there's an inevitability of dangling gears in the sea protected by a rubber ring .
