I have been given 15 ltrs of micron 99 antifoul paint left over from a friend’s haul out … great gift . Unfortunately colour is bright blue which is not the most aesthetic contrast with boot top and trim colour . Previously was black which looked great and wonder what pigment / additive I could mix with the blue to change to dark blue / black . Don’t really need any more paint quantity wise other wise would have mixed with small pot of black micron . Any suggestions?

When i used to apply antifoul paint it was always the erodable type. i used to remove about 1/3 of the hull's antifoul each year to avoid excessive build up over time.
I found that having different colours gave me an indication of where I had abraded to which helped me in annual removal.
The point of this is that it is to say that Iwould not want to alter the colour of the new paint this year.
As for the colour not being to your liking- Do not sail on your ear all the time . Reef a bit sooner.;)
Towards the end of the season no one will know what colour it is anyway. So who really cares-
You cannot see when under way - Unless you are hanging over the side to peuk:eek:

When you AF you give the hull 2 coats - use the colour you do not like underneath and you will know when the top coat has been worn off. As said who cares what it looks like after a few months in the water.

AF companies have spent decades developing their products - if you add anything to the formulation (apart from thinner) you will reduce the performance of the product. Be assured if there was a better, legal, formulation - the company would be using it already.

Embrace change.

Very fine charcoal _ just guessing here _ you would have to experiment.

West epoxy do filler colours _ do they do black ?

I posted earlier (waiting mods nod) as to whether antifouling is a thing of the past?

Oil tankers may need it. Do we? Unless racing of course.

Yes, we do. WIthout it, drag will reduce your progress to a snail's pace. Only real exception is in cases where you keep the boat in fresh water and sail in salt water.

Never got beyond mixing poster paints at school.

But maybe if you added a yellow you could achieve a pleasing shade of green? Can't be that bad to live with, plenty of copper coated boats around.

I change the colour of the anti fouling every year, simply because it’s easier to see where you may have missed bits when they are different colours than if the same, have also used various different makes (whichever has the best deal at the time) with no problems, it has always stayed put and done its job over the season.

I don’t generally worry about the colour, though I have recently settled in dark blue. I used to use Optima which was a rather gaudy blue but the owner of the marina complained to me about it on aesthetic grounds.
