I have a new/used motor. It is a 140A; it has 2 single Solex 44PHN side draft carbs. Boat idles fine but won't get up and go just bogs out. Wondering if I can put new single carb Solex 44PA1 on with proper intake that I have. It came off of my 125A and is all brand new??

Prop size maybe.

Hi,
You don't say if you are new to this boat or not. Assuming you are new to it I might suggest that it is more likely to be a prop sizing issue than a carburation issue. If th eengine is not generating sufficient power and is 'bogging out' then it's probably because it doesn't generate enough power for the load placed on it, i.e. the prop is too coarse. You can check this from the dia/pitch markings on the prop and on the power outpout of your engine compared to the hull size and design. There are tables available in books and on the internet.

If the carb was at fault then the engine would almost certainly missfire under load and overheat if left overloaded.

Changing down to a single carb is unlikely to help. Others may have a different opinion, but I'd check your prop sizing first.

Best regards,
Graham
