Change to Insurance Cover while Towing a Boat on a Trailer . New Rules.

A chance conversation with the Insurance Company who Insures my Boat (and Trailer) reveals that their criteria has changed as to how they Insure the Boat when travelling. I always thought that as long as my boat trailer was attached to the towing ball on my Car it was insured. A casual chat with my Insurance Company reveals that whenever I stop, and Park. I am expected to put the Wheel Clamp on.
Quote " Even if you stop at a Motorway Services for a cup of tea".
Is there a growing trend for Boats to be stolen at Motorway Services. etc.

I wont name my Insurance Company but you have to be over 50 to obtain cover.

I read their policy wording 20 yrs ago & would never, ever, use them

A very sensible requirement, theft of all sorts of towed vehicles from particularly motorway services is not uncommon, your pride and joy can be on its way with a new owner in less than 5 minutes. I always carried a wheel clamp with my last boat trailer and also with my caravan, and a hitch lock which locked the hitch to the car when parked.

Quite simply - yes! The caravan fraternity has long known that vans are stolen to order at busy Motorway Services, largely because you have to park at least a twenty minute hike from the teashop. Trucks, vans and boat trailers are similarly vulnerable. Of course it helps that a thief knows that if he waits, the goods will come to him...
