I intend to change the 2 blade fixed prop on my Moody 35 for a Darglow feathering 3 blade. I already have a 2 bladed "spurs" cutter fitted. I was intending to swap this out for an Ambassador 3 blade cutter but these boogers are expensive and I am wondering if I should bother. Don't see why the cutter has to have 3 blades just because the prop does.......

Because to be effective the blades need to be set as in the instructions in relation to each blade. Having cutter blades sticking out between prop blades as you will with 2 blades has a significant effect on prop efficiency. Good choice of prop - i have just ordered one for my project Golden Hind.

I’m sure you considered this but just be careful to check the ambassador is compatible with the proposed prop and it’s anode . It might be fine for darglow of course but just a thought before investing. We have a J prop so might be only an issue with some makes.

I have a two bladed Ambassador stripper fitted to my three bladed fixed prop - works well in practice, twice in fact... but as Tranona says it will probably affect probably prop efficiency. Doesn't bother me though.

When I fitted another type of cutter , I was dictated to by the space I had (without changing shaft and prop set up).
UK Stock is low on lots of kit, so check what you can fit, and what you can actually get your hands on !
I had to wait a month to get my new anchor ...........

I have a 2-bladed cutter with 3-bladed prop on my M376 - I spoke to Ambassador when I changed the prop. He said that if he were a better salesman, I should change it but if it were his, he wouldn't bother. So I didn't.

Actually just looking at the Spurs site its not entirely clear but looks a bit like they are all 2 blade anyway? Anyone know different?
Stop press, just heard from Nick Gifford Technical Sales at Darglow. He confirms that the Spurs are only available as 2 blade cutters anyway and are good cutters,so if its in good nick there is no need to replace it as the very small area of the blades will have little effect on water flow and prop efficiency. So you guys who have 2 blade cutters on a 3 blade prop were right. not a problem! Thanks to all who responded anyway.
