I've been the prvileged owner of a bus pass for a couple of years now and hope to make significant use of it - certainly a lot more use than I am likely to be able to enjoy from my Thames licence which was over £500 this year.

True, we do not have to have a boat on the Thames, or at all - it is our choice.

But, given the state of the river, particularly in relation to dredging, mooring spaces etc, I am seriously beginning to doubt that I can expect any significant change (for 'change' read 'improvement!) during the rest of my boating lifetime.

Frankly, I am now of an age where 'jam tomorrow' is of no interest to me whatsoever.

How can we get some action on these issues NOW while there is still time for us wrinklies to get some benefit? Frankly, I am in no mood to be altrusistic. Unless I see some light at the end of this tunnel, boating will soon cease to be on my agenda.

Stop paying the river licence fee until something is done?

Would need a concerted effort to get at least 50% of Thames registered boaters to refuse to pay, so not going to happen but would certainly focus minds on the issues if it did happen.

Tony, just carry on doing what your doing /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif this forum seems to have brought about a lot of change that years of RUG's, clubs and societies writing letters and holding meetings seems not to have achieved. Not knocking them but your efforts in starting this forum and the power of the internet has been very powerful.
We've had answers on dredging at specific areas, a dredger was hired, the Lock House issue was suspended, Out of hours power is being looked into, response's from Restuaranters to queries and complaints, improvements to the EA flood and River conditions notifications and many others i can't remember.

Don't give up just yet, it is happening /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with Chris . This forum seems to have made if not then helped make things happen . Especially as the EA have someone looking here ( well done EA )
I have been questioning if its worth having the boat as the last two years have been crap but i'm not sure if that the weather or the EA /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Anyway Tony , you got this forum started and it seems to have some clout in one form or another so well done , your a flippin hero /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All hail B! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

And you managed to get me the worst hangover I have had for 18 months:-) I agree with the others, this forum has stared some communication between interested parties, service users and providers, even if the outcomes are not always as desired, at least we can communicate.
